Traffic Warrants in Lee County
A traffic ticket is the underlying court case. A traffic warrant is a later judicial order that may follow a missed appearance or unmet duty. Leesburg Municipal Court says a judge may issue a bench warrant after a forgotten court date and the clerk may notify Georgia DDS. Lee County Probate Court separately handles its published county traffic matters.
Smithville confirms a municipal court but publishes no warrant lookup, payment portal, or clearing instructions. Leesburg rules cannot be copied to a Smithville case. The ticket's court name controls the route.
The Lee County Sheriff is the county law-enforcement contact, with a published non-emergency number of (229) 759-6012. That office may serve an order, yet service does not transfer control of the traffic case away from the judge who issued it. Superior Court and Magistrate Court also have distinct criminal functions. A person should not send a city fine to one of those offices merely because the word warrant appears on a notice.
This division also explains why one phone call may not answer every question. The municipal clerk can address the city case and judicial status. The Sheriff can explain its own records and law-enforcement role. DDS can address the license record. Ask each office a narrow question, note the date of the answer, and retain any court receipt or release until both the warrant and state consequence are confirmed.
Leesburg Traffic Warrant Timeline
The Leesburg Municipal Court FAQ says to call the clerk at (229) 759-6465 immediately after a missed date. One arraignment continuance may be requested 48 hours ahead, but that does not cure a setting already missed. A person unable to pay should appear and address the judge. The clerk may explain procedure but cannot give legal advice.
Quick answer: A receipt is not proof that a Lee County traffic warrant has been recalled. Ask the issuing clerk for the current court status.
How to Check for a Traffic Warrant
No countywide public warrant list was found. Citizen Connect searches arrests, confinement, and incidents, not active traffic warrants. Georgia Courts also says there is no centralized traffic-citation database. Start with the court printed on the ticket.
- For Leesburg, use the official citation page or call the municipal clerk.
- For Smithville, call the main city line at (229) 903-5537 to identify the proper clerk.
- For county traffic matters, call Lee County Probate Court at (229) 759-6005.
- Use Open Records only for a defined record, and check DDS separately for a license suspension.
Lee County Portal Boundaries
The official state source shown below explains why a ticket holder must identify the issuing court. An absent web result does not prove there is no warrant. The same limit applies to the Sheriff-linked arrest search. It searches past arrests by date range. It does not accept a warrant number and does not report whether an unserved court order exists today.

The notice is a routing rule, not a searchable warrant list. The Lee County Probate Court page lists cash, postal money order, and EZCourtPay for matters that court handles, but it is not a universal city-ticket office. When a portal fails or a recent case has not appeared, the clerk is the fallback. Give the citation number, full name as printed, and scheduled date. Do not send sensitive personal data through an unverified form.
What a Traffic Warrant Shows
A court record may connect the citation, person named, alleged violation, required setting, warrant action, and current status. Research found no public Lee County sample warrant row or local warrant-number format, so none is invented. Ask which field reflects the judge's latest action and when it entered the system. Old printouts and payment screens may lag. Clerk confirmation is more useful than a screenshot when proof of completed court action is needed.
| Citation Number | Use number on ticket |
|---|---|
| Underlying Matter | Traffic or ordinance allegation |
| Issuing Court | The court that controls the case |
| Required Action | Payment, appearance, or judicial direction |
| Status | Current state confirmed by the clerk |
Leesburg Payment Is Not Recall
The Leesburg citation page says eligible online payment enters a guilty or nolo plea and waives listed trial rights. A not-guilty plea requires appearance. The page identifies mandatory-appearance categories such as DUI, no driver's license, shoplifting, a suspended license or registration, passing a school bus, and cases involving a person under 21. This is a court procedure, not advice about which plea to enter.
The city says a person with an active arrest warrant remains subject to arrest until the judge accepts payment and processes the case. Processing is generally expected the next business day, with delay possible around weekends and holidays. A confirmation number only shows that the transaction went through. It does not show that the judge acted. Call the clerk after the stated processing period and ask whether the warrant has been recalled on the court record.
Leesburg accepts eligible payments through several published routes, including online, at City Hall, by mail, and by drop box. Each method remains subject to the court's rules. A mailed item can arrive after a deadline, and the city says online payment is due by 4 p.m. the day before court. No payment is accepted on court day before sentencing. Anyone near a deadline should verify receipt and eligibility directly.
Paying or Lifting a Traffic Warrant
Resolution belongs to the issuing court. Leesburg publishes card, cash, money-order, mail, drop-box, and online methods for eligible citations. Online payment is due by 4 p.m. the day before court, and no payment is taken on court day before sentencing. Confirm current eligibility first.
- Confirm the warrant and required action with the issuing clerk.
- Use only the payment or appearance route that court approves.
- Keep proof while judicial processing occurs.
- Confirm warrant recall and DDS release as separate results.
Warning: Payment may not instantly recall a Leesburg traffic warrant or remove a DDS suspension. Verify each action with the office that controls it.
Lee County School-Zone Notices
The Leesburg Police page distinguishes RedSpeed school-zone notices from ordinary municipal citation handling. Follow the ticket instructions and vendor contact. Do not label an automated notice a warrant without court confirmation.

The city source keeps that notice on its own track. If it states a court date, confirm with the named court. A vendor notice, a municipal citation, a bench warrant, and a DDS suspension are four different records. One may lead to another only after an authorized court or agency acts. Keeping them separate prevents payment to the wrong channel and makes the final status easier to verify.
Traffic Warrant vs FTA and License Holds
A bench warrant is a judge's order. Failure to appear, or FTA, is the missed court obligation that can prompt a warrant and a DDS notice. A license suspension is a separate administrative status. Georgia sources use bench warrant or FTA warrant, not capias pro fine.
| Mechanism | What Triggers It | What It Does |
|---|---|---|
| Traffic warrant | Unmet court obligation | Judicial order controlled by court |
| Failure to appear | Missed required setting | May prompt warrant and DDS notice |
| License suspension | Court report processed by DDS | Administrative status |
DDS Release After Lee County FTA
The Georgia DDS FTA page describes the state process. Leesburg's FAQ calls its court release a DPS912. That release addresses the license consequence and is not itself a warrant-recall order. Court payment, warrant recall, court release, and DDS processing are separate milestones. Finishing one does not prove that all four are complete.
The official state image documents the FTA suspension and release sequence.

Confirm both main outcomes. The court should verify recall. DDS Online Services, DDS2GO, or (678) 413-8400 can confirm license status. Keep the court release information available until DDS reflects the change. If DDS still shows a suspension, ask whether the court transmitted the release and whether more DDS processing time or a reinstatement step applies. Do not ask the Sheriff to change a DDS record because that office does not control the state licensing system.
Lee County Open Records can produce a defined record but cannot resolve the case. The county policy describes routing, possible fees, and a three-business-day response expectation. Court records may follow a different custodian route, and exempt information may be withheld. A narrow request for an identified record is more useful than a broad request for all warrant data.
Note: Call before appearing in person when an active warrant may exist because an in-person check can result in custody.
